If two objects are at the same distance, but one of them is half the true size of the other, how much bigger or smaller is the angular size of the larger object?
If two objects have the same angular size, but one of them is twice as far away as the other, how much bigger or smaller is the object that is farther away?
The angular size of the moon is about 1/2 degree. The distance of the moon from the Earth is 240,000 miles. Calculate the moon's diameter in miles.
Formula to use: D = S/ where D and are given in the question.
First convert from degrees to radians. Plug it into the equation and find S. S will be in the units of miles.
The angular size of the Sun is about 1/2 degree, about the same as the moon. The Sun is about 400 times farther away than the moon. Is the Sun larger or smaller than the moon? By how much?
Follow the same steps as used in the previous question. Once you find the diameter of the sun in miles, divide it by the diameter of the moon from the previous question.
