1. The thesis is that today, people believe that books are dying, whereas Proulx does not believe that the book industry is dying but that it is “alive” despite the technological takeover that has occurred over the last few decades. Proulx states that the book is unique because it is “small, lightweight and durable” and can be taken anywhere with anyone. The feeling one gets when reading a new book is almost indescribable. One second there are words on a page and the next, the reader is magically transformed into an exhilarating world. You step into your imagination complemented by the ideas the author has presented, forgetting that anything else exists. A feeling that cannot be found in the most advanced technology. Books are not dying but they are continuing to flourish in new and unique ways.
