1. After passing through a velocity selector (not shown), anti-protons (negatively charged protons), are deflected using a magnetic field as indicated in the figure.
(a) Electric and magnetic fields in the velocity selector have
magnitudes of 50 kV/m and 0.25 T, respectively. Find the
kinetic energy of the selected anti-protons. Give your
answer in eV.
(b) The magnetic field region is 5.0 cm wide. Find the magnitude of the magnetic field necessary to cause a deflection of 30◦.
2. An electron moves to the right in a region where both electric and magnetic fields are present. The electric
field is directed up while the magnetic field is directed into the page, as indicated in the figure. The electron
moves with an initial speed of 1000 m/s, the magnetic field has a magnitude of 3.0 T, and the electric field
has a magnitude of 5.0 kV/m.
