1. What is the difference between unmodified soybeans and the GM soybean grown in Argentina?
The Unmodified beans grow without any treatments while the GM ones in Argentina have been
modified to grow either faster, larger, or in more quantities because they are using less herbicide.
2. Why are farmers growing the soybeans at such large scales?
Because they are the most profitable type of crop and the easiest to grow if they are Genetically
Modified. Refer to Question 1 for reasoning.
3. What is an unfortunate result of requiring enough land for the fields?
They are burning down huge plots of rainforest so that they can grow their soybeans.
4. How do GM soybeans become part of people’s meals when they do not eat the soybeans?
Because the soybeans harvested are then put into the foods that the animals that we also consume
causing us to take the same nutrients just through a different food.
5. What is a reason why people avoid eating GM foods?
Many people are scared of the potential side effects of these modifications, and many people just don’t
understand anything so it scares them away from choosing that out of fear.
6. Why are many farmers in Europe not willing to grow GM crops?
There was a mass wave of confusion and deception through propaganda wars. People and news sources
were unsure and uneducated on the correct ways of production and consumption so in order to stay out
of controversy they just chose to not make GM crops.
7. Can the vegetables we eat be able to survive in the wild? Why?
No, the vegetables now that we produce require a lot of care and protection compared to the many wild
things that grow among us. One example is just the fact that bugs and parasites would demolish these
plants because they are not given any pesticides.
8. What types of genes are typically placed in GM plants?
