Objective
The purpose of this lab report is to examine data from an experiment involving orthogonal
cutting. It aims to understand how the material and depth of the cut impact chip formation,
cutting forces, and shear angle. The report also intends to estimate chip thickness and the
coefficient of friction at the chip-tool interface under the given conditions and compare them to
established modes described in the literature. Additionally, it investigates how the use of cutting
fluid affects chip thickness and the coefficient of friction during orthogonal cutting. The ultimate
goal is to provide a thorough analysis of the experimental data, assess the findings, and make
conclusions about how cutting conditions and cutting fluid influence metal cutting processes.
