Solution for New Wind Farm for Metropolis Light and Power From Michael Iannicca Kyle and Weber Wind The goal of this project is to calculate the cheapest and most efficient configuration for the new 200 MW wind farm using Powerworld Simulator. The first step is to view the power system’s initial state, which will be used as a reasonable amount of line losses. The new total power loss value needs to be near the old power loss value to be considered an option. All MVA flows of the new power system configuration must be at or below 100% of their limit values, and all voltages must be between 0.95 and 1.10 per unit. Finally, the solution must be optimized. Therefore, the lower total power loss coupled with the lowest price will decide optimal solution. SECTION 1: INITIAL POWER SYSTEM The initial system operating point is 10.71 MW, which was determined by disconnecting the KWW generator from the rest of the system and performing power flow calculations [Figure 1]. This value will be used to help find viable solutions. SECTION 2: RUN TESTS Multiple configurations were tested, including 69 kV and 138 kV lines. All of the 138kV lines tested would overload and send the system into unbalance. The two configurations that were very close in total power losses to the initial system losses involved two 69 kV lines.
