Answer:
1. As I have just recognized the face of an old friend at a party, many different things
helped me recognize her like: my cornea, retina, optic nerve, rods & cones, and my
feature detectors. The cornea acts as the outer lens for the eye. It’s almost like a
camera, in how it helps focus on what you are looking at. So my cornea helped me focus
on the image of my old friend. The retina gathers this focused image and then processes
it so that we can see who/what we are looking at and reserves the image. My retina
helps me recognizes my friend, because it processes the image I get of her and reserves
the image for me. The optic nerve transfers the image from the retina to the brain to help
you comprehend what is going and who it is. My optic nerve helps my brain get the
image of my friend so that I can understand who it is and remember them. The rods &
cones help me see in the lighting I am in and helps me see colors. This helps me
recognize my friend so that I can see her just right, and see what her hair color, skin
color, eyes, etc. look like to help me recognize her. And finally my feature detectors help
me pull all of it together and recognize who/what as well as I can. These features give
me that extra step that pulls all the other functions together so that I can recognize my
friend at the party.
