that goal for about 3 weeks. After work, Jeffrey runs on a treadmill in the gym on the ground floor of his office building. For
each of the following problems, be prepared to show your work (calculations) as necessary.
a. What is Jeffrey’s estimated HR max, given his age?
b. If, after 20 minutes of running on the treadmill at his heartrate is 140 bpm, what % of estimated HR max is
Jeffrey running?
c. Based on your answer in 1b (above) at what % of his VO2 max if Jeffrey running?
d. Is Jeffrey’s effort considered to be moderate, heavy, or very heavy? Justify your answer.
e. At the pace (or intensity) described above, is Jeffrey likely running above or below his lactate threshold?
f. If, at the pace described above, Jeffrey’s RER is 0.94 and he is consuming 13.5 L O2/min, how much CO2 is
being produced in L CO2/min?
g. With an RER of 0.94, is Jeffrey using more fat or CHO as fuel? Justify.
