Instructions: You may discuss homework with your colleagues, but each student is expected to
hand in his/her individual work. The homework will be due by the beginning of class, and no
exceptions will be made. You can submit your solutions in class or electronically as a single PDF
file (e.g., a legible scanned copy of your solution) to jq@purdue.edu. Thank you.
Practice solving the following problems from Chapter 13 (economic dispatch) of the textbook.
1. Problem 13.1. [Change 0.032 to 0.040, and 5.8 to 6.0]
2. Problem 13.2. [Use 810 MW instead of 80 MW.]
3. Problem 13.3. [Use the same load as in the previous problem]
4. From 2017 Midterm #1: Consider two power plants with cost functions

gi is in MW, and the cost is in $/h. Both plants are turned on, and their lower/upper
generation limits are 50 MW and 200 MW, respectively. We need to provide power to a load
of 300 MW.
