FRONT DESK MANAGER
We're swimming here at the moment as there's a huge new group checking in and
somehow, we've received mixed messages from the booking agent. We've especially
rostered our fluent Japanese speakers on this shift but the incoming group are Chinese!
I'm madly scanning the HR staff files to find someone rostered on at the moment who
speaks the right dialect. We've a very large multicultural staff. I hope there's someone on
the spot in the hotel as we just can't understand this group and their tour leader doesn't
speak English.
Oh, great! We can breathe! There's a Chinese linguist rostered on in F&B, I'll ring through
straight away and get him up here to help us...
HUMAN RESOURCES
Hello, it's nice to see you again. I've just been scrutinising the new award provisions. As of
last week there's been an update to the award and I'm following up its implementation
across the hotel. I have all the rosters here from last week to make sure we account for
each increase.
Part of my role here in the Hotel is to update, maintain and securely store all staff
records. That's quite a task in itself when you consider the size of our payroll. You can help
me by reading the names out from the rosters if you like.
EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER
One of my supervisors rang in this morning needing compassionate leave. I have to rewrite
the roster for the balance of the pay period to fill her place and as she is a key player in
the department it's not easy to replace her at such short notice. Compassionate leave is a
tricky one as it is usually totally unexpected and we just have to cope with the situation.
First I'll find a replacement for her and then work with HR on how we can support the
bereaved family as it's hard for them at this time.
Ok, please excuse me as I'd better start ringing around to patch this up here
