In “Why Leaves Turn Color in the Fall” from Diane Ackerman, she discusses how the seasons become more vivid and how the leaves have changed when exploring the chemical and scientific method and the color variation between the plant species in various parts of the world. She would make a metaphorical reference to death by the autumn colors and describes that death brings about a new life. Ackerman gives the audience plenty of facts on how the leaves have changed color, both chemically and scientifically when the author states that the color shift is controlled directly by the sun’s light in the late summer when trees start to withdraw the nutrients into its roots to protect the leaves from starvation.
